plug it in use the set-up cd, next right click computer > manage > disk managment > right click on it > format
Finally go to computer and see if its there, if it is, Yipeeee
you need to go into BIOS, by hitting whatever button it tells you to hit when you very first turn on your computer. Usually it will say ‘Press F2 to enter setup’ or something along those lines. If it doesn’t say anything, try pressing F2 or Del when you very first turn it on. If that don’t work try pressing all of the F key’s. After that look for your boot sequence menu. Select the drive your external drive. Then restart with your XP cd in the cd drive. If it asks you to boot from CD say yes. Then it should be installing to your external drive.
Can’t do it, you need a motherboard other components to hold registry settings on that specific drive. Have fun trying.
Now if i am reading what you wrote, its mostly plug and play, install the CD you got with it… Presto
Otherwise check system requirements for the hardware, make sure you meet that if so contact the manufacturer.
If it’s SATA, it won’t work.
Just an addition to the above answer.
