What Cable Should I Used To Connect My Computer To A Cable Modem?

I use a router now. I want to connect my computer to my cable modem directly. I used the cable that connect my modem to router and another cable connected my computer to the router, but they both didn’t work. What cable should I used to connect my computer to a cable modem?

  1. an ethernet cable you can buy them from computer stores they look like a phone line but the conection is larger

  2. Its a CAT-5 cable with RJ45 connectors.
    It should go Cable Internet > Modem > Router WAN > Then connect your PCs to the Router LAN
    Then configure your router with the instructions given. Very simple.

  4. You should be using a standard Cat5 Ethernet cable between the router and the cable modem. However, there is one specific port on your router that the cable must be attached to. Usually that port will be marked in some way. It will have “uplink” printed above it, be a different color, be slightly separated from the others, etc. Unfortunately it is different for every brand and model. Check the documention (r website) for the router and it will tell you which port you have to use.

  5. The problem isn’t the cable.
    The problem is that the cable modem is expecting the MAC address of the router instead of the MAC address of the network card in your computer.
    You need to turn-off the cable modem and computer for about 5 minutes, then turn-on the cable modem and let all the lights turn-on as usual, then turn on the PC.
    Once you do that, you /should/ be able to use the internet.
    The reason that you have to do this is because you are paying for only 1 IP address with your cable modem service and the cable company assigns IP address for each MAC address. Since the router has already taken the only IP address, you have to power-off the modem to make it “forget” about the MAC address of the router, then when you turn the cable modem back on, it will search for a new MAC address to assign an IP address to.
