How To Connect My Electric Guitar To The Pc?

I would like to know the easiest and simplest way to connect my electric guitar to the back of my PC. I heard of some cables i could get from Radioshack. I am not really into recording music but i would like to try it. Therefore, i dont want something complicated.
I would also like to know some electric guitar recording programs which includes effects, distortion, etc.
Thanks!

  1. Well a basic recording program would be audacity. You can download it online for free. It doesnt have distortion effects tho. If you want that you’d need to pay a bit of money. I use cubase but that will cost you. I still use audacity for recording ideas onto tho :) If you get a 1/4 inch to small jack adaptor you can put it on the end of your guitar cable and plug your guitar directly into the sound card. It would be better to plug in a mic tho and to mic your amp. Good luck :)
This link will give you an overview of it and at the end theres the link to the site where you can download it for free. Its definetly a good starting point :) Like i said there isnt distortion effects but there are other effects. Happy recording :)

  2. you can do what i do, you can get a regular guitar cord and use an adapter and plug one end of the cord to your guitar, and the other in the mic port in your computer. if your using mac, the software garage band will be more than enough for your needs. if your using windows, i head a friend of mine say that he uses cakewalk software. hope this helps, good luck with your recording.

  3. you can get these cables from radio shack, but I’d recomend ebay.com, much less expensive

  4. You need and audio interface:http://www.homerecorder.com/products.php…
M-Audio makes a couple of bundles specifically for guitarists. It comes with the industry standard professional multitrack recording program Pro Tools and a Black Box audio interface/effects processor with tons of guitar effects.
