My friend has an external hard drive and he hooked it up to his tv. How do you do this?

first set the drive to slave mode (look up how in the docs) and connect the sata cable using a external port converter to the digital input of the tv. if u dont got digital in u’ll need to buy another converter to convert tho A/V. also the drive must be powered so u need to computers psu
It may be that he had one of those Home Theatre/ Home Network type TV’s in which case he could have used a usb cable to connect it and view the files on it.

You need a TV which as a USB port that accepts mass storage drives, or a WD USB TV box, or similar device.
